Pretty shocking ads. The website they reference isn’t up (nor available on google cache or wayback), but you probably can get the basic premise from the copy.
Video games are harmful. Agree or Disagree?
I tend to agree, though I don’t think everyone who plays them suddenly will go on murder rampages, I think they do have a detrimental effect (as someone who used to play them growing up and doesn’t anymore).
I have a new view which I just thought up after seeing your post. Games are as dangerous as the person who plays them. I think if they’re effect can be digested in two primary ways
There are going to be people who play the games for enjoyment purposes, and others who interpret the game in their own, aggressive way, usually in line with their genetic structure. Science has taught us that people aren’t exactly Tabula Rasa’s when they’re born, we are inherently defined by our genes to how violent/passive/sexual/ect we are.
But external factors, mainly parenting I hypothesize, are the reason for a persons development, and the impact of books, movies, video games are small in compression.
And that’s not even taking into account the positive effects video games have… but that’s another topic for another day.
